What’s predestination all about?

questions and answers from revtrevHere’s a question a friend has asked me recently about predestination. Let’s get discussion going in the comments.

Pastor  could you explain predestination according to Eph. 1: 4-5   I don’t think God called some and not others to be part of His family. I have heard teaching on this but I need to hear it explained again.  Thank You.

For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love  he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— Eph. 1: 4-5 (NIV)

John Bunyan’s allegory Pilgrim’s Progress has a balanced explanation to predestination.

When Christian approaches the Celestial City he sees words over the gate saying, “Whosever will may come”. Once inside the walls he looks back and sees “Chosen from the foundation of the world” written over the gate on the inside.

I personally think the best way to look at predestination is from the view from heaven. Taken to extreme’s here on earth means “why should I even tell anyone about the Kingdom?”

Hope that helps.
