Trevor’s back pain had gotten so bad that he was prescribed strong medication in the hopes of alleviating the discomfort. Still, one evening I had to rush him off to emergency. The pain was so bad that he was just about passing out. We waited about 2 hours just so that a nurse could give him a morphine shot. The doctor finally came by and basically said the same as others before her; surgery will probably help. But considering the line of people waiting for surgery, he wouldn’t get in unless it was an emergency. An emergency entailed the loss of bowel control. I was so disheartened. Trevor as usual was so patient and strong in spirit. All I could do for Trevor was to be patient as well, and pray. But it didn’t seem to help much. Or did it?
I called out to God. “ Lord please help … You are Jehovah Raphah, our God who heals … By your stripes Lord Jesus we are healed … Lord if you want us to go to New Zealand you’ve got to do something about this back …”
My Dad is a medical x-ray engineer.
The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride”
(Ecclesiastes 7:8).
At the beginning of all this Trevor was due for a scan sometime in September 2004. Thanks to Dad’s contacts, Trevor was able to “jump the line” to get a CT scan. Almost immediately after, he also had an appointment with a specialist and within a couple of weeks his herniated disk was surgically corrected. So thanks to my Dad’s help and divine intervention Trevor’s back was on the mend by the end of August 2004.
I have to admit I still struggle with the fact that God hadn’t performed a sovereign miracle in healing Trevor.
Nonetheless God had intervened through time and I was very thankful for that. I guess since most of these types of back pain go away spontenoeusly, a miracle would have been more easily discounted than what happened in the natural.
One evening I heard His quiet voice in my spirit “I’ve done my part. Now will you do yours?”
Immediately I new it was time to get our business in order. It was time to respond to God’s request.
It was time to move to New Zealand.
Have you made a promise to God you’ve forgotten to keept? If he’s holding you to it, he’ll bring it to your mind. Step out in faith and fulfill your vow.
