Mighter Than The Waves

For me the Ocean is one of God’s mightiest creations. I LOVE the sea. Nonetheless, I don’t like swimming in it. Sharks, stinging Jelly fish, snappy crabs and other creatures although magnificent handiwork’s, are all cause for concern. As far as I’m concerned the West Edmonton Mall water park with its fake wave pool is a much safer and desirable place for swimming.

But to sit on a sand dune and to listen to the roar of the crashing waves or to walk barefoot upon the sand on the water’s edge while the waves pound the shore … it’s exhilarating beyond description!  At times I quietly sat and observed with a revered respect the majesty of the ocean. I sensed God speaking to me directly. In fact it was the result of such intimate moments that lead me to write a song based on Psalm 93.

While we lived in New Zealand we had the opportunity to experience the beauty and the majesty of the ocean on a regular basis. We collected shells, made sand castles, ran up and down sand dunes and breathed in the crisp sea breeze.  We lived only 20 minutes away from the nearest beach. According to the locals it was not the greatest beach and 20 minutes was too far to drive.

But for us Canadians who would have to drive at least 18 hours (in Canada) to get to the nearest beach, our beach in New Zealand was truly Paradise on Earth. It’s amazing how one’s perspective can be so different, depending upon life experiences.

While many locals take the ocean for granted, we made use of every opportunity to enjoy it! No doubt God delights in us enjoying not only his creation but more importantly His fellowship with every given opportunity.  Indeed our God is mightier than the seas … the nature of his reign is firmly established … it cannot be shaken … the nature of his reign is holiness forever.
