With God You Can’t Lose

Written to an ancient people in the midst of an impossible situation, the promise of Jeremiah 29:11 holds true for all who hold true to our faithful God. The pictures we illustrated the verse with are of Mark Kowalyov, Karen’s cousin, who is a Canadian living in Australia. God’s promise will be as true for him as it is for my father.

We returned to Canada because God allowed us to come and be a closer support for my family as my Dad walks through the valley of death. Bulbar A.L.S. has taken away his ability to speak and hindered his ability to swallow and breath. There are times of great concern as he has deteriorated.

I’ve been able to help him get his journey published in a book called “Walking Through the Valley – Dealing with the Prospects of Death with Bulbar A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig’s Disease)

I know God could have heal him, and that the greatest glory God would receive would be for him to be healed. I’ve had great times of struggle asking God: “When? Why? And How?”

One day I was battling with it in church. “God if you’re God and your word is true and it’s by your stripes we are healed and if no undeserved curse remains… why haven’t you done anything? Where is your goodness? Where is your power? If as God you’re only good to calm people’s spirit, why should I serve something that I can get from a pill? Are you better than a placebo?”

I was upset. Imagine my surprise when someone who was almost as disappointed at the situation as I was came up to complain to me about God and the response out of my lips was: “With God you can’t lose.

It was a moment of epiphany. I saw God’s faithfulness in preparing my parents to walk through this valley.

I saw his goodness in giving each of us kids the measure of faith we have. I truly believe with God you can’t lose. Dad has strength for the day and a promise heaven is far above anything we can imagine. Even the valley of death cannot thwart God’s plans.

This assurance can be yours. Let the truth of Scripture inform your situation and stop letting your situation inform your view of scripture.
