David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the LORD his God.
1 Samuel 30:6
In the middle of the tragedy, when his men were talking about stoning him. David strengthened himself in the Lord.
When you’re in the middle of tragedy – when the phone call comes that takes your breath away, when you cry out to God but your prayers aren’t yet answered, when you’ve taken that step of obedience and faith and your foot slipped and you fell from the heights – how can you strengthen yourself in the Lord?
I’ve found and practice these tools – praise and joy, the word, fellowship with others, and praying in the Spirit.Over the next few posts we’ll take some time to explore them. Love to know if you have discovered other tools to stay strong in your faith.

Thank you for this post. I have found that singing songs to the Lord helps. I think that is part of praising Him. If I can just remember this when times are tough.
I love defining praise as “telling God the truth about Himself”. When we do, we “make Him bigger” – not that He gets bigger, but He takes more of our view. Then we realize the name of Jesus is the name above every name… checked out your blog – great work!
Trevor,
I really value the high quality of your twitters and website blogs. Your insights on hope are well worth passing on.
