In our series of “How Big Is Your But?” we’re looking at how we can stop worry so we can avoid fear and keep ourselves from excusing disobedience. We’ve gone through Agreeing that God Cares and Praying About Everything today we look at our
choice to be be thankful.
3. Choose to be Thankful
Prayer and petition with thanksgiving… ask and keep asking… seek and keep seeking… knock and keep knocking… and do with thankfulness (See Philippians 4:6-7).
What Happens When We’re Not Thankful?
Here’s a really interesting statement made by Paul:
Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Romans 1:21 (New Living Translation)
Thankfulness is the key to overcome fear and worry. If we’re not thankful we can start to think up foolish ideas of what God is like. You’ve seen this in people. You may even see it in yourself when what you read in the Bible about God just doesn’t make sense to how you view the world. Thankfulness is a choice we need to make. Thankfulness helps us to stop worrying.
In the next post I’ll tell you how I choose to be thankful.
How do you choose to be thankful? What helps you make the choice? Love to have your input on this.
The same way we choose to worry, we can choose to be thankful. It requires great effort and practice on our part to redirect our “feelings and situations” out of the driver seat of our heart and replace it with what the Word of God says; “in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
Thanks for the reminder Mike. It’s something I had to remember today. Lots I could choose to complain about, but thankfulness leads the way!
Dude, I must say that overall I am fairly taken with this web page. It is apparent that you know you subject matter and you are passionate about it.
Thanks again.
