3 Steps to Cast Your Cares on the Lord

We’re looking at 5 Reasons Why We Don’t Experience a Light Burden. We’ve started by examining if we’re carrying a yoke that isn’t ours. We ended the last post with saying we need to cast our cares on the Lord.

How can you do this?

Here’s three steps to cast your cares upon the Lord.

  1. Start with “He Cares for You”. Because He cares for you, you can trust Him. 1 Peter 5:7
  2. Allow His perfect love to cast out all fear. 1 John 4:14-16
  3. With Prayer, Petition, Thanksgiving present your burdens to God. Philippians 4:6-8

Casting your cares on the Lord involves a trading of your present anxious thoughts with thoughts of Him, of His love, His care, His character and His sure promises.

It’s not at a superficial level. You must replace the thoughts at the level of your heart.

That sometimes takes time. It’s a discipline. And one that’s worth the effort.

You don’t just struggle trying to cast your cares. Taking hold of Him and focusing your mind on Him will force the cares out.

Take time to soak.

You can get rid of cares at any time by taking the time, effort and concentration to enter His presence and letting your mind focus on Him rather than the problems.

Do it daily.

And you can totally change your life by coming to know and believe His love and mercy and willingness to hear you and help at every time of need.

Carry only what God tells you to.  That is all that is asked of you.

Next time we’ll move onto a second reason we may not be carrying a light load. If you check out 5 Reasons We Don’t Carry a Light Load you’ll know what it is.

There are numerous of sources on the web to assist sufferers but this one is unusual in that you’ve some good quality information. As a result of limited level of good quality web sites that really help people take care of this disorder I too set up a internet site addressing a few of the common questions. I have also looked over this condition. My version of ’3 Steps to Cast Your Cares on the Lord | RevTrev.
com | RevTrev.com’ covers many comparable areas but perhaps from a different point of view. The truth is if you suffer with obsessive-compulsive disorder well then, your trying to find answers to your yearnings – There’s no
doubt that as much awareness is obtainable the better.

    Dear Rev. Trevor,

I appreciate having come across this posting tonight. I have been struggling with anxiety on and off for a long time. Lately, it has intensified to the point it is interfering with my life. Several life events have come together at the same time which are causing stress. I am making a concerted effort to practice casting my cares on the Lord. Thank you for this timely reminder.

I turned off the automatic approval because I was personally missing so many great comments. I want to be able to answer each one…but today there are so many it gets me rethinking that approach.

    Thank you for this.

I’m pretty sure I have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). I have a horrible habit of always worrying and obsessing over things until I just confuse myself. It’s very had to focus because of it; I can’t just push the thoughts aside. Not only that, but I get too deep into my obsessive worries that I start believing lies about God’s true character. I start thinking, “Maybe He just gave up on me.” That’s very untrue, though.

I really need to learn to stop worrying and just let God work His plan. The more I try to figure things out myself, the worse it gets.

I’ve had a few OCD counsellors post advice on this site. Just search Guest Bloggers for them. Maybe they have something to help? Prayed for you. Keep in touch.

I have been carrying a lot of burdens and it is taking a toll. I finally went to the Bible and this is the scripture that came to me. I googled the scripture and this blog came up. It spoke to me and I wanted to let you know. I will be reading it until it sinks in!!

    • revtrev says:

      Dinah,

Thanks for letting me know. I said a prayer for you.

For me, I need daily time in the Word to stay encouraged when my life doesn’t line up with God’s promises. The verse that keeps going through my head lately is what Jesus told Thomas…

…Thomas was a realist. Look at his conversations – he was ready to go to Jerusalem to die with Jesus – He knew what the score was. I can’t call him “doubting Thomas” because his “unless I see the wounds in his hands and put my hand where the spear went, I won’t believe” was a declaration that said, “unless the Jesus of history is the Christ of faith, I won’t believe.”

That’s a good place to be. Jesus tends to meet us where we are in our honesty.

Jesus came and told Thomas to see his hand and touch his side – and it was enough for Thomas. Thomas never put his hand on Jesus’s side…seeing Jesus was enough. He said, “My Lord and my God!”

The next verse is the one that’s been going through my mind…John 20:29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Do we believe before we see the promises of our resurrected Lord and God?

The easiest way for me to believe is to spend time with Him in His word…I’d better get into it now.

      Blessings. Thanks for the comment.

    Hello again RevTrev,

Blessed to teach this Sunday and next – 1st Peter Chapter 5. Would be honored to quote from your thoughts here, and your Living Light section – is that ok? Will give you credit of course!

It would seem that many in my sphere of influence have been under direct attack – health, choices of family and friends, responses from ex-spouses, and even isolation for walking a new path. What comes to mind are combination punches – rebuke and cast cares, have courage and accept (Serenity Prayer), confess and pray (James 5:16) – and your three steps above.

Thanks for all you do – and having a timely message (nearly 15 months old – yet I read it today), which all points to THE TIMELY MESSAGE – The Word! Be Blessed Sir.!

  9. Kevin says:

All I can say is “WOW!” I WAS SITTING IN A PUDDLE OF TEARS PRAYING SAYING I CANNOT AND DON’T KNOW HOW TO DO THIS ON MY MY OWN AND I WAS THE REASON FOR WHY I AM IN THE SITUATIONS I’M IN AND I HEARD GOD SAY “CAST YOUR CARES ON ME FOR I CARE FOR YOU. I HEARD THAT PLENTY OF TIMES IN CHURCH BUT THIS TIME I RESEARCHED AND MAN THIS SITE FOUND ME RIGHT WHERE WAS AND I THANK GOD FOR YOU SIR. GOD BLESS YOU!

    • revtrev says:

Kevin, I’ve been in the same place myself and know the blessing of God breaking through in ways I can grasp…sometimes just enough for the day…

Thank you so much for sharing with me. It’s an encouragement to me that I could never let you know right now.

  10. David Guion says:

Thanks for a post that elegantly points out that casting care on the Lord is simple (only three steps) but not easy (a discipline that must be learned over time). I’m certainly making slower progress than I would like!

  11. Catherine says:

I googled “cast your cares” and came upon this blog post. I have searched for months, online, in books, for some guidance on how to let go of my worries. There is not much practical advice, your post is the first one that has made sense to me. My worries and fears are taking over my life and I am looking for more advice. In particular, I feel so guilt for dumping all my problems on the Lord, after all, I made this mess by myself, why should I be so fortunate to be able to let them go? I am meditating and consciously trying to rid myself of worry when it pops into my head, but I would really like to hear what others do. I really like your website and know reading it is a step in the right direction. I truly want to change and replace my worry with peace and joy. Thank you for sharing, RevTrev is now a “go to” for me when I feel overwhelmed.
