This is my first official newsletter in quite some time so I need to give a big welcome to all the new subscribers to RevTrev News, Ministry Coaching, Counselling Corner, the Negativity Fast and the few other lists we have up to help make your life matter. In the announcement I sent out earlier in the week I let you know a bit about TheAuthorAcademy.com. In this newsletter I’ll tell you more about some exciting news for me personally. First let’s get to some encouragement.
Don’t Use for Death What Was Meant For Life
In the book of Deuteronomy there are three places it says, “Don’t boil a young goat in it’s mother’s milk.” It’s the start of the Kosher laws that were later developed. People wanted to make sure milk and meat didn’t touch. It’s so tough living under the law.
The Bible was written FOR us – all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Timothy 3:16 – but much of the Bible wasn’t written TO us.
What that means is we need to learn to take the principles from the Hebrew scriptures and work out their application in our lives. The principle of not cooking a goat in it’s mothers milk is to not use for death what what was meant for life.
Do we do that?
What about our relationships? Marriage is meant for life in every sense of the word. We complete each other. We start and raise the next generation. It needs to be our closest tie…and yet how many of us let our marriage go toxic?
What about our church? We need the encouragement we can give each other. We need to business and relational connections. We need the shoulder to cry on and we need the people to help. Yet too many pastors feel they need to condemn. They forget their authority is to build you up and not tear you down. 2 Corinthians 10:8 – Listen I’m not afraid to confront people in their unrepentant sin but I think every sermon can be improved by starting with “Lord give me Your words for Your people.” I digress. I feel I blog series coming on.
Are you using for death what was meant for life?
- Are your words cutting or uplifting?
- Are your relationships mutually beneficial or toxic?
- Are your struggles growing your faith or making you bitter?
Paul said, “Everything not done in faith is sin.” (Romans 14:23) So I guess another way to say it is, “Are you sinning thinking your doing good things?” Maybe that’s another topic. But it’s a thought for us all to consider.
Can I pray for you?
Lord, help us to know if we’re using for death what you created for life. Help us to judge our actions and motivations to know if we’re doing anything not in faith. And help us to acknowledge that as sin and repent. Encourage those who are doing their best, even if it’s never easy. Help us all to rely on your great grace and love. Amen.
Don’t go and buy my new book.
Don’t go and buy my new book. You read that right.
While I’m so excited to see “Closer to the Fire: Lessons from the Persecuted Church” is in print. I’m going to tell you to not rush out an buy it. This is the book I helped Greg Musselman write – he’s the author. I’m the co-writer. I’m meeting with him tomorrow and get some copies. Next week we’ll have a little contest to give a few of those copies away to RevTrev Readers. I think I’ll have 3 or 4 to give away. So keep checking RevTrev.com for the details.
Sure if you’d rather purchase your own copy right now you can find it here. I do recommend it for small groups to study or for you personally if you want to find out some of what is happening to Christians around the world. Greg and I will be doing a series of videos for RevTrevTV so subscribe to it if you want to keep in touch with it all.
And Finally,
