What Colour was Jesus?

Here’s a series of questions from a reader on the history of Jesus. I hope I wasn’t too sarcastic.

Question:

What nationality and colour was Jesus Christ? What language was Jesus Christ speaking. Where was Jesus Christ between 13yrs and 30yrs. Who was the wife of Jesus? How many children did Jesus christ bore  with his wife. Remember these quote “Don’t cry for me but for yourselves and your children” The words from a caring father, husband and son.

Answer:

Jesus came from the line of David (Matthew 1).

We have quotes from him in Aramaic (Mark 5:41, Mark 15:34). He would have known Hebrew to know the Scriptures. He could have known Koine Greek as it was the lingua franca of the area. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aramaic_of_Jesus

We don’t have anything IN SCRIPTURE that talks about his life before he entered the ministry. Christians had problems with that early on in church history so books like the Armenian Infancy Gospels

It’s conjecture and speculation that finds “clues” that Jesus was married. I know it was unusual for anyone in his time not to be married, but since it wasn’t important enough for God to include it in the Scriptures, I’m totally content in not knowing.

Could have he been married? Possibly. Maybe probably. But since it’s not in the book it really falls into the category of “foolish and stupid argument” (2 Timothy 2:23, Titus 3:9)

As does the question of colour of Jesus. It’s unlikely He was northern European white. He fit into his culture and had nothing to attract us to him. (Isaiah 53:2)

I want to deal with theology that affects how we live. The colour of Jesus, what He spoke, if He was married, how many kids he had are all missing the central message of the gospel and Kingdom.

Seek the Kingdom. There is a world that needs to see the beauty of His holiness in you.

  1. Jesus was a blackman. He spoke Armaic language for the black people of Ethiopia and the audience understood armaic language. Therefore ,is it fair to depict Jesus now in a different colour other than being black as his original colour?Jesus was taught and practised a diffent religion other than the present christianity what was it?

You really need to go into writings that never made it into the Bible to prove your point. Gnosticism almost knocked out orthodoxy I’m not going to support its return.

Thannks for the questions which you have spread to other readers and we have received feedback.Another question:Let us make a man in our own image.Do be pricise God was speaking to Lucifar and the angels. Therefore, our image is equal to Satan, equal to God and equal to Angels. So these are our parents. If one despize your own parents no matter how serious their differences might be ,we invite bad omen upon us.So we, humans ,are we sincerely to hate satan as we do today? Is it not good for us humans to leave God and Satan to sort out their differences alone and wish them well? Are we rightious to aggravate seeds of disunity between God and Satan?

  3. My Jesus is the colour of life, of hope and of love.

My Jesus has coloured my thoughts, my dreams, my plans and my future.

My Jesus is the colour of prayer in times of darkness and the shining light of praise.

Jesus, may the colour of your life colour mine.

Well I am offended when people often mention that he was married. Get educated Get A Life even Mary Magdalen called Jesus Rabbi, where is ti in any book that he was married. I think if people say this then they are really offending God I think. Reading stupid fantasy stories by Dan Brown won’t get you anywhere. He only wrote that book so he would get everybody offended to gain his own success. He made his money by using The Lords name in his own heretical accusation. Only to get himself famous for dirty money.

There are some Gospels out there that we don’t even know what they are about:

    Let me Explain.

The first Christians were accused abused and prosecuted. Since Devilish people always try to kill the Christians, there were the Gnostic Christians that have lost their track. Because they couldn’t keep in touch with each other. So they were a lack of knowledge basically creating their own reality Gnosticism.

The only REAL books out there are Mathew, Luke, Mark and ESPECIALLY John. The rest doesn’t really matter. Paul was one of the first that wrote the word down.

People Really like to think The Dumbest And Most Foolish Thoughts. They Never like to think of what is Righteous. Is it really so difficult to believe that Jesus was unmarried.? Look at the disciples. John stayed unmarried and all the others or they left their family or they never married. Why was John Never married and all the others? Because they have followed their Rabbi’s Example (Jesus).

Xenia, I agree. I read the gnostic and other extra biblical writings as history not scriptural truth. We can only use what’s in the Bible and be content not to know what the Spirit has chosen to leave out.

I’m glad Brown’s books are such poor reads…although I guess that makes them popular.

  5. Great answer to some great questions.

I also want to applaud you on redirecting the conversation to the importance of the gospel.

Thanks for tackling a sensitive topic.
