I was so excited to be accepted by Thomas Nelson to review their books. I signed up for one right away and then was offered to review Fearless by Max Lucado. I love reading books before they get launched to the public. Here’s my thoughts for Max’s latest book.
Each sunrise seems to bring fresh reasons for fear.
They’re talking layoffs at work, slowdowns in the economy, flare-ups in the Middle East, turnovers at headquarters, downturns in the housing market, upswings in global warming. The plague of our day, terrorism, begins with the word terror. Fear, it seems, has taken up a hundred-year lease on the building next door and set up shop. Oversized and rude, fear herds us into a prison of unlocked doors. Wouldn’t it be great to walk out?
Imagine your life, wholly untouched by angst. What if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats? If you could hover a fear magnet over your heart and extract every last shaving of dread, insecurity, or doubt, what would remain? Envision a day, just one day, where you could trust more and fear less.
Can you imagine your life without fear?
Once again Max Lucado brings his great storytelling ability to a timely topic. His reliance on the Word of God is admirable as is the craft of his writing skill. He strengthens, encourages, and comforts with his words. I know many will be encouraged when they read this book.
People of faith can’t be led by fear. Everything that’s not come by faith is sin (Romans 14:23). Yet we live in interesting times and when much of what we’ve put our hope in has been proven to have been misplaced, so fear is an easy choice to make.
The truth Max shares will be well received well. His advice is laid out well and easy for people to follow. This book will be a favorite sermon source for many pastors. He once again tells great stories and remains so very quote-able.
I would like to see more of the root of fear dealt with. “Trust God” while true, does seem to be a little trite at times. But since I know Max is writing for the CBA audience, I know he’s done a good job planting for some, watering for others, and seeing a harvest in even more. I do recommend this book to others.
