I can’t really tell you how long I’ve been blogging on RevTrev.com. All I know is I have over 800 posts and WAY TOO MANY categories. I suppose you can say the same thing about the number of plugins I have as well.

That didn’t keep me from installing one more…and maybe another to help it. I’ve installed the Organize Series Plugin and so wish I had it when I started blogging. You tag your posts when you post them (unless you’re me, then you go through series and label them more tediously) and the plugin adds the series at the top and navigation on the bottom. I’d like to change the CSS to get the color to match my scheme better, but other than that I’m impressed with how painless it is.

Why do I want to set up series? Well, it helps me refresh content. I’m going to be setting up training around some the series I’ve done so I want to get as many people to those series as would be interested in the training. Setting up series allows me to structure the posts from first to last rather than last to first the way WordPress needs to. Finally, it gives me some satisfaction that what I’ve written will be enjoyed beyond the SEO traffic…by the way I’ve discovered my early series had no SEO, so it gives me a chance to better optimize the site as well.

I’ve got a few series set up – you can see them in the sidebar under “Featured Series” I’ll be adding others as time goes on. I’m turning this site into more of magazine feel and back issues are a great resource.

Training and Encouragement Will Be More Structured on RevTrev.com in 2012. I’ve decided to pull my knowledge of social marketing and blogging, and book writing, publishing and marketing into RevTrev.com. I may have time for some coaching in these areas so I think the best way to see if there is any interest in my experience with these topics is to blog about it. We’ll see what happens.

I’m also setting up email courses for topics I’ve written on – hope, honor, forgiveness, overcoming shame, overcoming sin,  overcoming worry, living life God’s way…and more as time develops. I’m still working on a time frame for releasing these ones. Can you let me know which topic you’d like a course in first? Feel free to write in your own choice.

In 2012 I’m planning on becoming consistent blogging on Social Media Tips. I have series almost ready on Basic Blogging and Using Newsletters Effectively as well as some videos on Twitter Tips.

I also have all kinds of training around every aspect of Publishing – writing, printing, distribution, marketing. My plans were to package them into informational products and I still might do that with the juicy stuff it took me 5 years and countless dollars to figure out, but I’ve decided to truly centralize my many interests into RevTrev.com.

With all that in mind the question becomes…are you already finding RevTrev.com too random?

New to RevTrev Newsletter

I started having “blogging buddies” because I found out when people commented on my posts, other people would also comment. I thought if I would do the same for others it would increase the conversation on their sites as well. It turns out I don’t have all the time in the world and I haven’t become a professional blogger yet so I haven’t had time to comment 2x a week on every other persons blog. I still read everyone’s blog posts every week, but that’s been a Saturday morning pleasure for me and I have well over 150 blog posts to go through.

So what I’m going to do with RevTrev Recommends is give you links for great blog posts that have encouraged me. If you have ones that have encouraged you that you think my readers will appreciate, let me know. You can send it by email, twitter or even stumble upon.

The new section to the RevTrev Newsletter I’m expecting to be a special feature, but hoping it will a regular one as more people share their good news with me so I can pass it on to you. This section is called “Kingdom News”.

Every week lately I’ve been getting amazing stories of salvation, healing, deliverance, and financial blessing. Most of these are coming from places like Pakistan, India, Iran, and several parts of Africa. News I get encouraged by I’ll be passing on to the readers of my newsletter.

So SEND ME YOUR STORIES! We need to pass on the good news of our Good God! As you can tell, I’m quite excited by all this. Now maybe I can get onto making the changes to revtrev.com…or maybe not. I just looked at the time. Better run.

It seems this site is always in flux. It’s worse than our house, but that reminds me I need to remodel the bathroom.

I promised myself to stop blogging about what I want to do since I found out it when you tell others about your plans you have a far less chance of getting those plans done. It’s because when we tell, instead of keeping us accountable, we psychologically feel the project is closer to being done than it actually is…I think I’m talking myself out of this blog post.

Ah…I’m calling it Wish List because I’m not certain I can do it all without conflicts in the code or dramatically slowing down the site. I know it might not be possible, but I thought a blog post would remind me for the next week to troubleshoot the solutions I’ve found and I know some of you who read this blog are much smarter than me using WP, PHP, Javascript and coding in general, so any advice you can give would be great.

I want more white space in the design. I also want more content. So here are the 3 things I want to change in the little while.

1. I want the Twitter + Feedburner widget that you can see on TentBlogger.com I found out that it’s only for the Standardtheme, although the company told me if I bought the theme I could hack out the widget.
2. I want a tabbed section for Recent Posts, Categories, Comments, Tags and possibly the “About Me” section I have currently in the header. I found out the one I want is only for the WooTheme.  MichaelHyatt.com uses the Standardtheme but has the WooTheme widget which tells me his programmer most likely hacked the WooTheme. There are days I dream I can hire people smarter than myself so they can take care of all this little whims I get.
3. I set up the space below the Logo to be an image rotator. I’d like to get it to work.

The problem with #2 and #3 is that they’ll likely use javascript that can either conflict or slow down my site or slow down my site because they conflict.

Do have any suggestions for me for widgets or workarounds you’ve used to:

a. Combine counts for Twitter followers and Feedburner stats (plus any other legitimate ones you can think of)

b. Have tabs in a WP widget area – I’d prefer to control what I can place in a tab.

or

c. Rotate Images in WP – it will need to have links connected to the images.

I appreciate any help you can give.

I have a new server for http://revtrev.com that can only back up 7 gb of data. So I wanted to get rid of my self-hosted video posts. Here’s my thought patterns for doing it now. I might go back to iTunes in the future. Right now I’m more concerned with having a fast and secure website

It looks like I’ll be sending out this newsletter on Wednesdays for now. Thursdays have booked up for me. We actually had some very exciting news this week and the complications that arose from the exciting news seemed to have been worked out.

My father-in-law gave us his brand new car the day I started my new job. Phone calls, faxes, texts and emails had everything work out. It really seemed like an amazing turn around day for us. God’s been really, really good.

I’m now the Book Marketing Director at Pagemaster Publication Services.  We have a lot of exciting and innovative plans to put together. I’ll still be running my blog as usual but will have to answer emails early morning or late at night…which reminds me…I’d better answer a few now.

	Why It’s Important to Make a Decision I had a few important decisions to make this week. I can’t get into details about some of them, but you can know I was going back and forth on a number of them. I know you know what it’s like because you’ve been there too. I firmly believe if you need wisdom, “ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” (James 1:5)  But often confirmation and peace comes after you take that step of faith and make a decision. You can’t keep on waffling. You need to be alright with making a mistake. Get as much information as you can, but be at peace knowing you’ll never have all the information. Only God knows the future. Listen, if it’s faith that pleases God and faith is shown by our actions we need to be doing and not just deciding. Isaiah says, “Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” (Isaiah 30:20-21) Whether I turn to right or the left, the voice is behind me confirming I went the right way. Yes there are times God calls you to a specific place for a specific time. But I find as we mature in Christ our relationship moves from being told what to do to being confirmed we’re doing the right thing. It’s a lot like how we raise our kids. When they were young we told them what to wear, when to get up, when to go to bed. They’re getting older so we let them choose their own clothes and have looser limits on sleep as long as they’re up when they need to be. Soon they’ll move out and we’ll become even more like advisors. And even though I have kids and love to see them grow up, there are days I wished I had my dad to just tell me what to do. I know he never would, but I think it’s normal to want to be a kid sometimes. Although I’ve found God doesn’t respond well to whining. Congratulations! You’re growing up. God trusts you with the decision. Make it!
	Social Media Tip People often ask me how I keep up with so many followers on Twitter. There are two things I use everyday that make it possible to interact and grow my influence on Twitter. The first is free – TweetDeck  I have both my accounts up so I can respond to mentions and DM’s. I also have facebook and Foursquare up (I just started using foursquare). The second is free for the basic version, but you really want the next step up – TweetSpinner  lets me schedule tweets, follow, unfollow, clean up spammers and people who are just on Twitter to sell. I get about 1000 new followers a week currently just using Tweetspinner. I show you how I use it in Twitter Tips from @revtrev

This has been one of those kinds of weeks. I’m not discouraged, but more amazed at the emerging pattern. I have a muslim who calls himself a cleric who wants to debate me on Twitter. I have a reader who keeps emailing me arguments from 1800 years ago who I sense wants me to convert to gnosticism.

I’ve told them both, “I wasn’t argued to the faith I have, I can’t be argued from it.” I’ve never really seen debates change people’s hearts so the struggle I have is “How can I show them God’s love and power?”

I’d appreciate any advice. In the Think About It section I’ve put in how I’ve learned to responded to criticism. Appreciate your thoughts on that as well.

	How To Respond to Criticism What are we to do when we’re condemned by others? We are all going to be unfairly judged. So we’d better address how to deal with it. It’s so easy for us to be defensive and lash out. Hurt people hurt people. But you don’t have to. You can break the cycle.  Here’s how: Ignore or Confront… but Forgive and Bless. Let’s draw this out a bit… Ignore Nehemiah didn’t stop his work on the wall to confront those who unfairly spread lies about him. Maybe this is the tactic the Father has for you. Ask Him and obey what He says. But be careful if its in your personality to avoid conflict because you may just be assuming the Father is telling you to ignore it.   Confront Jesus confronted the religious leaders of the day when they said it was by satan that He was casting out demons. Perhaps it serves the Father’s purpose for you to confront.  Don’t do this because you enjoy it. You’re in the wrong place if you enjoy putting someone in his or her place. Still, don’t back away if the Father tells you to stand. Forgive We’re taught to forgive others for our sake, not for theirs. When we forgive others, Christ can forgive us. Forgiveness is not an option. You must forgive. If you want more information on this, check out our booklet “The Freedom of Forgiveness”.     Bless them     Let’s let the words of Paul to the church in Rome expand this concept: Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say,    “I will take revenge;       I will pay them back,”       says the Lord. Instead,    “If your enemies are hungry, feed them.       If they are thirsty, give them something to drink.    In doing this, you will heap       burning coals of shame on their heads.” Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good. Just got back from a morning fishing expedition with my son. We didn’t catch anything, but I only had to cut a line 3 times to untangle. That to me is a successful day trip.

We’re going to look for a more productive fishing hole. It would be great to make it something we do for the rest of summer.

I’ve been working to finish up a ghostwriting project so I didn’t think I was blogging as much as I usually do. Turns out I had posted MORE than I usually do in a week…could be those quick diversions from ghostwriting for sanity’s sake were more than I thought

	Taking Time With Daddy One Sunday morning I was busy making breakfast. Taiessa (who was 2 ½) came up to me. Usually when she did that, she was looking for an advance on her breakfast.   I asked her: “Do you want some milk? Would you like some fruit? Do you want some breakfast cereal?” “No Daddy,” she replied clutching her blanket and dolls. “I don’t want anything, I just want you to hold me.” Immediately God impressed upon me that that was the attitude He wanted from us in our Sunday Service. I shared this before the service began, and we shared one of the most wonderful times of worship we had up to that point. We didn’t ask of God because we knew He would provide. I’ve had some interesting questions asked of me this week. Love to have your comments on them…

• How Can I Receive the Holy Spirit? We’ve all got different traditions and my answer isn’t even following my own. Love to have your input from your perspective.
• Can A Christian Get Breast Implants? A reader of mine is concerned that a friend is considering breast implants. This is not a question I was ever asked as a pastor. We never talked about it in Seminary. It’s such a privilege that people come to me online to ask questions that really need answers. Is my answer the same as you’d give her? You know what…I’ve got a lot more written on God the Father than I can find on the site. I will make this a topic in the New Year.

I’m a little hesitant to do one as Christ as our bridegroom. Don’t get me wrong, the Bible is clear He’s the groom we’re His bride. I’m convinced He’s coming back for a body in proportion to His head. What makes me hesitant is a teaching that makes Christ’s relationship with the whole the same as my relationship with Him. It’s because I’m a guy and one that has studied the Song of Songs in the original Hebrew.

It’s a great sex manual for a husband and wife…but I have a hard time seeing myself as His bride.

But it’s Biblical -

“For your Maker is your husband – the Lord Almighty is his name” (Isa. 54:5).

“‘In that day,’ declares the Lord, ‘you will call me, ‘my husband’” (Hosea 2:16).

“‘Return, faithless people,’ declares the Lord, ‘for I am your husband’” (Jer. 3: 14).

Paul’s words, believers are “presented… as a pure virgin to her husband” (2 Cor. 11:2. The Message).

The Book of Revelation says, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb” (Rev. 21:9)

I’m just not sure at this time in my experience I can do anything more than say, “It’s in the Bible. I don’t understand it except as an image of all of us together.”

Q. I would be really encouraged if you could do a piece on dealing with sexual temptation.  Pornography Etc.

Thanks so much. I’ve done a series on overcoming sin http://revtrev.com/cat/overcoming-sin/ but nothing specific on sexual temptation. Pornography use and sexual fantasy usually has more to do with feeling out of control in life and trying to control one part of it. When the root gets healed, and accountability is in place, real victory will happen. I should really do a specific post on all this.

Q. I would like for you to address: Firstly, HOW do you talk to God and hear from Him? And secondly, how do you KNOW it’s Him (God) that you’re hearing from?

I’ve done a number of posts on hearing from God and how to discern it. It’s so important for people to know how and how to make sure it’s God. Since we have the mind of Christ, we can. But we can be like Peter and give revelation of Christ one minute and the words of Satan the next.

Thanks for the idea. I don’t think I’ve done a post on this one yet. I’ll probably approach it from another angle…We are united across time and around the world, so why do we equate sameness with unity?

I get excited when churches work together, but it’s best at the local level. Jesus spoke to the church in each of the 7 cities in Asia Minor, I expect there were different houses where they met. Locally we need to work together.

Personally I see denominationalism going and true fatherships arising.

Have a great Christmas. I’ll think about what I can do for a blog post. Love to hear more of your thoughts on it.

Q. There are so many people I know that are suffering financially. Maybe one of the topics you could write on would be about trusting God in these economic times. Maybe about trusting God even though there may be consequences to our own poor financial decisions. Tithing, obeying, all hard to do when there’s not enough money to pay the bills, much less to give God what we should (even though it is rightfully His anyway!). I enjoy your blog dude. Keep on… many get encouragement from you!

One of the things I love about speaking is that it allows me to say things I could never say in any other public setting.

I’m not saying I don’t want to share my faith. I’m not saying I won’t pray for the sick on the street. I’m not saying I won’t stand up for what’s right in a difficult conversation.

It’s just that I can’t imagine saying the topic for this message without it being the topic for this message. Honestly, I’d probably get my face slapped.

Prayer Items

Keep praying with us for 1 Corinthians 9:14 to be real for us. I start and end my day with the decree:

Lord, you have commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel. I agree with Your call on my life which is irrevocable and Your command for how I should receive my living.

Oh that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm that it may not pain me!

Keeping Up Hope in the Midst of Plan B

Question of the Week

This week’s question is from Amanda. She asks: Does God have a feminine side to him?

God is Spirit, but He relates to us ways we can understand. That’s why He shows both masculine and feminine traits, or better said, that’s why He’s given us masculine and feminine traits.

The first verse that stands out to me is in Genesis 1:26-27

So God created man in His own image;

He created him in the image of God;

He created them male and female.

There are some interesting portions of Scripture that point to the feminine side of God -

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast

and have no compassion on the child she has borne?

Though she may forget,

I will not forget you! Isaiah 49:15

As a mother comforts her child,

so will I comfort you;

and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.” Isaiah 66:13

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing. Matthew 23:37

We’ve found in helping people heal from past wounds that if they can’t “see” the Holy Spirit in a memory, they likely need to forgive their mother. The Holy Spirit has the “feminine” characteristics of comforting, teaching, and coming along side. In the Hebrew “Shekinah” is in the feminine.

But we can’t address God as “she”.  The Old Testament Scripture contains almost 170 references to God as the “Father.”  In the Gospels alone, Christ uses the term “Father” in direct reference to God nearly 160 times.

The New Testament Epistles (From Acts to Revelation) also contain nearly 900 verses where the word “theos”—a masculine noun in the Greek—is used in direct reference to God.  In most cases, this is rendered “God” in English versions.

So it’s probably best to remember we’re made in God’s image and that’s why men and be men and women can be women.

Social Media Tip

I’m so excited about RSS. I love the blogs I can keep up with it. I don’t have to worry about being spammed. I control how long I follow a feed. I’m testing a number of things with my RSS feed to help out those that read my blog with it.

I want people to be able to watch the videos I show and listen to the audio I include in their RSS reader. I’m testing a few plugins that seem to do that. I want to be able to give RSS subscribers a gift and include an ad. I think I’ve worked those things out as well.

As I find real solutions I’ll let you know about them. With 3,935 rss readers I think I’d better get more serious about it.

With so many followers on Twitter, I’m always getting mentioned in people’s daily papers. I finally had time to check it out and thought, “Why not do the same?” It seems like a great way to keep up with people I’m following. So I’ve started mine.

The Trevor Lund Daily is set up. Every day a portion my tweets and the tweets of people I follow will be included as news stories.  Don’t know how it will go, but why not?

By the way, I’ve been checking out the #newtwitter if you have to, I’d love to hear what you think about it. Every once in a while I try to find something and can’t… like they changed the name of DM’s to “messages”…that took a while. I use Tweetddeck so much I’m hardly on Twitter proper anyway.

I’m getting ready to launch some exciting new features on this site as well. I need to clean up the categories and found the Batch Categories plugin that should (hopefully) take care of the 404 messages. I’m going to a weekly newsletter with Top Posts mentioned. I’m going to be taking RSS readers more seriously as I’m loving keeping up with blogs through an RSS reader. So why not give people a gift for signing up through RSS? I’ll also be conscious of audio and video formatting for the feed. I’m also lining up Blogging Buddies…but don’t have time to get into that now.

Got to run. We have friends coming over to soak and pray about a church plant.
