Blessing Boundaries Can Increase

There are two ways I see in scripture that blessing boundaries can be increased.

1. God Can Command It

“Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, ?do not hold back; ?lengthen your cords, ? strengthen your stakes. ?For you will spread out to the right and to the left; ?your descendants will dispossess nations ?and settle in their desolate cities. Isaiah 54:2-3 (New International Version, ©2010)

2. We Can Request It

Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request. 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 (New International Version, ©2010)

Are you living within your boundary blessings?
Are you obeying Biblical commands?
Are you obeying Prophetic commands?
Are you in the right location?
Do you have the right vocation?

Let’s take some time right now and ask God to remind us of any command we may have forgotten.

Invite the Holy Spirit to take you to where you’ve had a safe encounter with God.
Now ask for a memory where I’ve made a promise to God or heard a definite command.

Has God shown you anything? Pray this with me:

Heavenly Father. Thank you for your love. Thank you for your grace. Thank you for reminding me of a the boundary blessing I’ve been out of. Forgive me for trusting in false security. Help me to take the step of faith to obey.

Do you need your boundary blessings increased?

Now maybe you’re right in the place He wants you but you need your boundary increased. Pray this prayer of Jabez with me…

Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.

Are you disobeying a prophetic command on your life?

Now remember, we need to know how to steward our prophetic call. Often God will give us a passion for something well before we can start living in His vision for us. He does this so we start walking in the right direction.

That’s not what we’re talking about here. When He tells you to start something…and you choose to use the excuses not to obey…He’ll start by letting you reap what you sow then, when it becomes urgent, He’ll start working against you.

Don’t be afraid that you’ve missed a prophetic command. You may have missed God’s perfect timing, but…

For God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.
Romans 11:29 (New International Version, ©2010)

Since they remain for the Jewish people after the cross, they remain for us even if we’re slow in obeying.

I know this is dangerous and controversial teaching. Too many of us have been convinced that our lack of obedience and sin has removed God’s call on our life. We’ve put ourselves on the shelf…I know some of you have done horrible things. I’m not suggesting you jump back into the call without getting healing and possibly forgiveness.

I am saying, “God’s call on your life is irrevocable.” I don’t care how bad you’ve messed up. I don’t care how terrible the things you’ve done were. It’s time to rebuild your character and get on with the job.

If no one you know is going to stand with you I will. Contact me. If you have a teachable spirit and are willing to make things right, I’ll do what I can to help you make things right and get back to your calling.

Now a prophetic command can fall under different categories. Let’s look at how blessing boundaries can be prophetically pronounced over Geographical Locations and Vocations. We’ll look at both in future posts.

Boundaries Can Be For A Prophetic Command

God often doesn’t let us keep on disobeying. He let’s us reap what we sow. If that doesn’t work to get our attention, He reserves the right to work against us.

The people of Israel returned from exile. Nehemiah rebuilt the walls, set up the Levites and singers in the temple and told the people to bring in the tithe so that the Levites and singers could give themselves to the ministry of the temple (Nehemiah 12:44). Nehemiah returned to Persia and the people forgot to bring in the tithe or even support the building of the temple. They got busy building their own houses. Taking care of their own families. God send the Prophet Haggai to confront them. This is what he said (Haggai 1:3-10):

Then the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai: “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?” Now this is what the LORD Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.” This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored,” says the LORD. “You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?” declares the LORD Almighty. “Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house. Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops…. Haggai 1:3-10 (New International Version, ©2010)

Because they weren’t doing what they were prophetically told to do, God was against them. They we’re obeying what God told them to do, so He made what they did useless.

Is that just for people who were under the law? Or can the same thing can happen to us? If we don’t obey a prophetic command will we see everything we’ve worked for disappear?

Scripture is that God won’t honor sin.

David said about God:

When you rebuke and discipline anyone for their sin, ? you consume their wealth like a moth— ? surely everyone is but a breath.
Psalm 39:11 (New International Version, ©2010)

Could your lack be because of sin in your life? The Good News is with God there is forgiveness and grace. There are all kinds of excuses Christians use to sin. Stop using those excuses and decide to do right.

Now we all know examples of people living in sin and looking like they have it all together. What do you do when you fall into that trap? I’d appreciate your comments.

Why Seek the Lord – 7 reasons

Why should I seek the Lord? Well, besides the promise that those who seek the Lord will lack no good thing (Psalm 34:10), there are a number of other benefits to following God’s command to seek Him (Hosea 10:12).

Much like fearing the Lord, seeking the Lord is of great benefit for us; and like fearing the Lord, we shouldn’t seek the Lord just to get the benefits. Knowing the benefits can motivate us, keep us focused and help us know when we’re on the right track.

Here are seven benefits I can find in Scripture.

7 Benefits of Seeking The Lord

1. We’ll fully understand justice

Proverbs 28:5 (New International Version)

Evil men do not understand justice,
but those who seek the LORD understand it fully.

2. We don’t need to worry about everything everyone worries about

Matthew 6:31-33 (New International Version)

So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

3. God’s ears will be attentive to our prayers

1 Peter 3:12 (New International Version)

For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

4. We’ll be delivered from our fears

Psalm 34:4 (New International Version)

I sought the LORD, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.

5. We’ll Live!

Amos 5:4 (New International Version)

This is what the LORD says to the house of Israel:
“Seek me and live;

6. We will be strengthened

2 Chronicles 16:9 (New International Version)

For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.

7. God will be found

1 Chronicles 28:9 (New International Version)

“And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.

Jeremiah 29:13 (New International Version)

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Tell Me To Come

It wasn’t that we woke up one day and decided to move to the other side of the world. Before we were married God told us independently that we would be outside Canada.

We didn’t know the where, when, why, or how but knew God would reveal it in time and we were to simply do the best with what we had while we had it.

When we were considering me becoming the Senior Pastor of RCF, I asked God to tell me if I should be looking to leave the country then, or if He would give me a timeframe for how long we would be at the church.

Three times 2005 came into my mind. That was seven years away and I was too young and too much in the immediate to consider that was really a time from God. I felt at peace at taking on the challenge at RCF, knowing God would reveal where He would lead us.

Over the years I contacted people from around the world and slowly our focus got narrowed to New Zealand. In short order we were asked to consider a position in Palmerston North. We went down to investigate telling God, “If it’s you command us to come, and we’ll step out of the boat. Long story short, no command came but I knew Palmerston North was the place and the when would be made clear.

The call became clear about a year later. Things at the church became less of a challenge and we had confirmations we may explain later that told us it was time to go. Dad had still not been diagnosed with A.L.S. when we told the family we were leaving in six months, but the symptoms were starting to show and the diagnosis would be soon coming. Challenge returned to the church before we left, but we were blessed with a wonderful send off from our church family.

My family spent Christmas in LA and we joined them soon after for a few days in Disneyland before continuing onto Auckland. It was tough to leave the family not knowing if we’d ever see Dad again this side of heaven. I asked God to let us gather as a family again not to mourn, but to celebrate. But we knew God had confirmed he was on the waves and told us to come after him and step out of the boat. We had to keep our eyes on him, not the waves.

But everyone needs to do that, don’t we? The waves of our circumstance quickly grab our attention and it is so easy to start to sink.

Isn’t it incredible that Christ is always there to grab our hand when we get overwhelmed and lift us back to safety?

So why did Christ chastise Peter for his lack of faith and not the eleven still in the boat?

Don’t know, but I know I’d rather be chastised than ignored.
