7 Things I’m Thankful For…

why

I’ve had this continual thought: “You need to be thankful” confronting me at the weirdest times. Knowing I’d be reminding myself as I remind my readers to be thankful, I decided to make it the topic of this week’s newsletter. Then as I listened to the market report I was reminded tomorrow is American Thanksgiving. (We have a shorter growing season in Canada and so celebrate ours the second Monday in October.) HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all my American readers. Have [...] Read more »

Blessing Boundaries Can Increase

breakingchains

There are two ways I see in scripture that blessing boundaries can be increased. 1. God Can Command It “Enlarge the place of your tent,  stretch your tent curtains wide, ?do not hold back; ?lengthen your cords, ?  strengthen your stakes. ?For you will spread out to the right and to the left; ?your descendants will dispossess nations ?and settle in their desolate cities. Isaiah 54:2-3 (New International Version, ©2010) 2. We Can Request It Jabez was more honorable than his [...] Read more »

My Prayer of Agreement

I’ve been called to be a pastor and right now I’m doing almost all of it online. I’m blessed with the work I do to receive my living, but also want to agree with God and his call on my life. Here’s my prayer of agreement I pray to agree with God’s thoughts for me. My Prayer of Agreement 1 Corinthians 9:14; Romans 11:29; 1 Chronicles 4:10; Deuteronomy 28:1-14, Romans 3:22-24; Galatians 5:25; 2 Corinthians 1:20; 1 John 2:27 Lord, you have [...] Read more »

What Does In Jesus’ Name mean?

You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. John 14:13 (New Living Translation) You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. John 15:16 (New Living Translation) At that time you won’t need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you [...] Read more »

How do you Fast and Pray and Help Others Out?

These are questions I need a lot more time to answer fully but let’s start with the basics right now. How are we to do everything we are to do? Let me know what you think in the comments. Question: I’ve been so caught up in my emotions recently, I haven’t noticed that God was busy encouraging me with his servants and I have been ignoring. I recently sort references to aid me to understand more about our unfailing God [...] Read more »

How Do You Know a Picture or Vision is from God?

Here’s another question I finally got around to at least partially answer this week. I’d appreciate your thoughts and input on it. Question: When I pray I pray several ways. first its usually for an hour each day. I will always worship, I will pray in tongues, and I will pray what God tells me to pray. The last part is what I have a question about. I consider praying in the spirit to be prayer directed by the Holy [...] Read more »

The Path of Peace is Not the Most Reasonable Path

Wouldn’t it make more sense for David to wait for his fighting force to recover? The Amalakites where a larger force and they were slowed down with all the plunder. Every man had a stake in the fight and every extra sword would undoubtably be appreciated. But David had inquired of the Lord and asked what he was to do. He set off to do what he could with the resources he had. The path of peace is moving the [...] Read more »

Praying in the Spirit Strengthens You in the Lord

But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Jude 1:20 (New International Version) A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally 1 Corinthians 14:4 (New Living Translation) Did you ever notice Paul wished everyone would speak in tongues? Read 1 Corinthians 14:5 a little slower, and stop at the first comma. If you jump up to the verse 4 you’ll see why… because the ones who speaks in tongues [...] Read more »

Do Spirit-filled Believers Leak the Spirit?

Here’s another question from a reader I’ve tried to answer. It’s a good one we should all consider the pros and cons for. Question: A friend of mine brought up the subject of being filled with the spirit and she reckons that we are filled with the spirit when we are baptised in the spirit (I agree) and that we never need to be refilled again as the Holy Spirit lives in us after this and therefore we have all [...] Read more »

Hope Strengthens Itself in the Lord

David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the LORD his God. 1 Samuel 30:6 In the middle of the tragedy, when his men were talking about stoning him. David strengthened himself in the Lord. When you’re in the middle of tragedy – when the phone call comes that takes your breath away, when you cry out to God [...] Read more »

A Prayer Against Depression – By Ignatius of Loyola

People have been asking me to pray for them going through difficult times. I found this prayer by Ignatius of Loyola.  It’s a good one. O Christ Jesus, when all is darkness and we feel our weakness and helplessness, give us the sense of Your presence, Your love, and Your strength. Help us to have perfect trust in Your protecting love and strengthening power, so that nothing may frighten or worry us, for, living close to You, we shall see [...] Read more »

How Can I Pray?

I so enjoy the questions I get everyday. You can reach me with yours through email, commenting on posts, or in the forum. Question: I am a very new born again Christian, I have only a year and a few months. And my vision is to become a “TRUE PURE CHRISTIAN” and prepare heavenly life. I believe that Jesus Christ set me free through His Cross and has a plan towards my life. The problem I have at the moment [...] Read more »

4 Things to Look For When Hope Needs To Ask For Help

I guess it’s a compliment for pastors: People move into a new area and start attending a new church and feel connect with the person leading the service and it’s natural for them to not get connected as easily in small groups. Then tragedy hits and in the panic to get someone a loved one to the hospital, they assume the pastor will know and meet them there. When it doesn’t happen, the pain is added to and… well, I’ve [...] Read more »

What to Do When You Can’t Hope

What do you do when you can’t move past the sorrow? How do you move on when you don’t have the faith for the next step? What can be done when you accept the circumstance and it overwhelms you? You need to know that you’re not in this alone. Paul made it clear he relied on the prayers of others when things got tough for him: We don’t want you in the dark, friends, about how hard it was when [...] Read more »

How to Pray in Tongues

tall ship blue sky

In an earlier post I answered a question about How to Filled with the Spirit. I had to clarify what that meant and mentioned I probably don’t hold a “classical” view of the doctrine of tongues held in some circles I’ve been a part of. It was actually quite funny one day in seminary. I was the one always making pentecostal jokes. I only make fun of what I’m a part of, but I guess this one guy didn’t pick [...] Read more »

Why You Can’t Hope in The Prophetic

I’ve come to understand that I was raised with an unspoken assumption that most Christians don’t have. I was never taught this, but somehow absorbed it into my psyche. It’s wrong, but I need to mention it because I know I’m not alone. I understood that when a prophetic word “came” – what I mean by that is someone spoke a word of encouragement and it resonated well with my spirit – it was a done deal. God had revealed [...] Read more »

Why You Can’t Hope in Potential

God has given you many talents. You have the ability to create wealth and friends. You have the will to maybe even think yourself well. However history records time and time and time again that potential found in our strength and abilities often fall short. If you’re in a place where you need to know how to hope, you’re likely already past the point of relying on your own abilities. David readily agrees: Now I know that the LORD saves [...] Read more »

7 Things I’m Learning While Planting A Church

I’m the one who says “I’ve never done it before, how tough can it be?” It’s gets worse because I have a theology that says “If God calls you to something, He’ll see what He wants done gets done.” Basically my theology gets me thinking the ridiculous is possible and the impossible is necessary. And now we’re planting a church. But you know what? Every conversation I have convinces me we’re part of a movement. I’m humbled and in awe [...] Read more »

How You Can Pray

This weekly wrap-up is very brief. All of my wordpress sites have been hit with a malware virus that puts links to pharmaceutical companies on high ranking posts. I won’t go into details, but it looks as if I’ve found someone willing to fix it and tell me how they did it so I can fix all the rest. Karen asked me why things like this seem to happen when we start moving ahead with what we know God’s called [...] Read more »
