Does God Hate?

does God Hate

Here is a questions someone asked me on Twitter. It’s time to wrestle with our understanding of God once more. Are you ready to let your brain hurt? I’d appreciate your comments. Question: What are your thoughts on Psalm 5:5? Just got into a heated debate about it. Have any resources? Answer: Psalm 5:5 says: Therefore, the proud may not stand in your presence,       for you hate all who do evil. First off we need to take every verse in [...] Read more »

7 Things That Changed at the Cross

It is really amazing to consider what was accomplished at the cross. It’s even more amazing to work it out in every area of your life. Here’s a quick overview of some of the highlights for me. I can’t say this is an exhaustive list, but I see 7 things changed at the cross. At the Cross: 1. Guilt was removed For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that [...] Read more »

Does God Use Shame To Change Me?

This is another question from a reader. I’ve put my thoughts together for her. You can share yours in the comments below. You may have other thoughts I haven’t come up with. Question: Pastor, I have a question. Before I got saved I had a big ego thank God that is gone  now that I am saved.   My sister-in-law used to envy me and compete with me on looks.  Then I got saved and a new person came out. Hope Research – Scripture References

Research on hope needs to start with Scripture. This is not a definitive list of what the Bible says about hope. However, they are verses I needed to follow up on as I wrote Hope In Transition. Many of these are tweetable. All of them should be viewed in context. There are amazing nuggets of truth available for people who seek out wisdom. Be encouraged by them. I explain more about most of them in the book. But you don’t [...] Read more »

Do We Have an Option to Obey God?

grasshopper

In this series on “How Big is Your But?” we’ve looked at the children of Israel’s response to the news from the spies who looked at the giants in the land and said “we looked like grasshoppers in our own eyes and we looked the same to them.” Their response to worry and fear is only significant in how it affects our response today to situations that look impossible. If God has told you to do the difficult are you [...] Read more »

How Can I Examine My Obedience?

Can I examine my obedience to God? Since obedience is part of fearing the Lord, seeking the Lord and doing what’s right…and doing what’s right, seeking the Lord and fearing the Lord are the pre-requisites for getting the good God has intended for us, how can I examine myself to see if I’m obeying God? I’ve got to allow the Holy Spirit to search me. I can’t take other people’s kind or harsh words at face value and it’s easy [...] Read more »

Does God Want Good For Me?

We need to understand the good God has for us. Is God really good? Is He is a good mood? Let’s examine the life of Christ to see the “good” that His obedience brought Him. Paul tells us that because of Christ’s obedience, He got something good. Philippians 2:5-11 (New International Version) Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made [...] Read more »

Faith, Hope and Love

Now I’m not going to be talking theologically about the topics of faith, hope and love… although I could mention: Everything not done in Faith is sin… …and everything that does not come from faith is sin. Romans 14:23b (New International Version) Everything not done in Love is useless… If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and [...] Read more »

How I Hear the Father Speak to Me

Unless you’re taking a test and the Teacher is silent, the Father is always speaking. It’s up to us to learn how He’s speaking in this season, or else we may just miss it. Job 33:14 says – For God speaks time and again but a person may not notice it. Why is it so important for us to notice what the Father says? First, it confirms we are His. My sheep hear My voice, I know them, and they [...] Read more »

7 Steps That Set Me Free with Truth

We need Truth. All of us can get focused on the lies we tell ourselves and the lies of the one who seeks to kill, steal and destroy. I’ve found the only solution for it is to allow the Father to regularly search our thoughts and show us any wicked way we’re walking in. When we can hear the Father’s voice chains fall off of our souls; wounds still festering are healed. Knowing He’s there in the dark places of [...] Read more »

What is Good News?

What is Good News? I don’t want to cause division, but I was asked to review a book on what is lacking in Western Christianity. The only answer the book gave was “taking care of the poor.” While I agree we  really need social activism as part of the good news, it’s not up the the church to become a better version of a service group like the Rotary Club. The author missed something that wasn’t even on his radar. [...] Read more »

Is God Fair – Part 1

I love answering questions people ask me on this blog or on Twitter. I’m not saying I have the full or complete answer ever, but I do know I have more questions than most people have time to think about. A few days ago, someone asked me this on Twitter. I’ve just been able to put together an answer now. Here’s the question she subsequently emailed me: How come we all became sinners after the fall? No choice in the [...] Read more »

Love: Do Everything In It – Day 40

Truth: We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters. If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion–how can God’s love be in that person? Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. Our actions will show that [...] Read more »

Replacing Lies With the Truth – Day 18

Truth: You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever. Psalm 16:11 (New Living Translation) Thought: Many have lies they choose to believe. These lies come in to help us “heal” wounds that we’ve been afflicted with. It’s not actual healing that occurs; it’s a snare of the enemy to gain a stronghold in our lives. Try this exercise: List 10 words of affirmation that have [...] Read more »

When Worry Isn’t Negative – Day 7

Truth: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. I have taken an oath and confirmed it,that I will follow your righteous laws. Psalm 119:105-106 Thought: The sword of the Spirit is the main offensive weapon mentioned in Ephesians 6 – prayer is another. Lies we believe can’t stand up to the word of God. When satan tempted Jesus in the desert, Jesus always responded to the half truth with the full truth from [...] Read more »

How Do We Give the Father Honor?

To understand what the Father has done, let’s take a quick look at Revelation 4… …the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever). And they lay their crowns before the throne and say, “You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.” (Rev 4:10-11 NLT) Did you ever wonder [...] Read more »
