Lord thank you for our parents, we love them. They took care of us growing up and has been with us through our joys and sorrows. At many times they have been our rock and salvation—through whom you’ve proved yourself true. You worked through them to show us your goodness. Thank you for them.
They still do their best to still do what they can for us. May they long enjoy the works of their hands. May they grow to know you better and better.
Bless them as they bless others. May they have strength all of their days. Help them know and accept when they need more help.
Keep them from falls and colds. Help them when stairs are a problem. Don’t let them stumble and protect them if they miss a step. Keep them from things that need long hospital stays. Keep them from accidents where they be hurt or be the cause or adjacent to the cause of any one else’s pain.
Ease their physical and emotional pain by your grace. Help them to know it’s true for them that the God of all hope will fill them them will all peace and joy as they trust in you so that they can overflow with hope by the power of Holy Spirit.
Help them have grace for themselves as large lives start to shrink. May they know they are still seen. May they know they are still heard.
Give us wisdom with and when we entrust our concerns—knowing they have more time to ruminate than we do. May that wisdom from above be pure. And also be peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. May it be full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. May it show no favoritism and be always sincere.
Help us to provide eight minutes of safe space for them—whenever they need it—to express their thoughts feeling and emotions without judgment, criticism or condemnation.
Help them as they mourn the passing of friends and family. When they are the oldest in their generation help them to bear that weight.
Help them transition. Keep them safely in their homes. Help us know the best way we can help. Help us transition as they transition—from cared for to caregivers. Help us honour and love them all of their days. May they have strength all of their days. May they long enjoy the work of their hands. May they grow ever confident that they will see more of the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. May they live all the days of their lives.
May their children rises up and bless them. May their grandchildren rejoice in their light.
May they bear fruit and be fit and flourishing even as they age. May they know they loved and cherished and trusted and appreciated. May the come to know you—who to know is life eternal—better and better all the days of their lives.
