What are the benefits of doing what’s right? When I write ad copy for businesses I know to put the benefits before the features. I suppose that’s why I’m listing what I’ve studied in Scripture in this way. So let’s start the discussion on who we are with the benefits of doing what’s right. Some of these are self evident, and once again I want to stress we have the wrong attitude if we obey just to get the reward.
We need to do what we do out of doing what’s right, not what we get for what we do.
Still, since obedience is better than sacrifice, there are benefits we receive for doing what’s right even with the wrong attitude.
1. Do what’s right and all will go well with you…
Deuteronomy 6:18
Do what is right and good in the Lord’s sight, so all will go well with you. Then you will enter and occupy the good land that the Lord swore to give your ancestors.
2. Do what’s right and you have joy…
Psalm 106:3
There is joy for those who deal justly with others and always do what is right.
3. Do what’s right and you please God…
Proverbs 21:3
The Lord is more pleased when we do what is right and just than when we offer him sacrifices.
Ecclesiastes 8:4-6 (New Living Translation)
His command is backed by great power. No one can resist or question it. Those who obey him will not be punished. Those who are wise will find a time and a way to do what is right, for there is a time and a way for everything, even when a person is in trouble.
4. Do what’s right and you reflect the Father’s nature…
Psalm 25:8
The Lord is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray.
Isaiah 26:7
But for those who are righteous, the way is not steep and rough. You are a God who does what is right, and you smooth out the path ahead of them.
5. Do what’s right and you show others God’s love…
John 3:21
But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”
”The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips then walk out the door and deny him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply find unbelievable.” Brennan Manning
6. Do what’s right and you show yourself you’re in Christ…
1 John 2:29
Since we know that Christ is righteous, we also know that all who do what is right are God’s children.
1 John 3:7
Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous.
7. Do what’s right and you avoid sin becoming your master…
Genesis 4:7
You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.”
8. Do what’s right and your society improves…
Judges 21:25
In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.
9. Do what’s right and no good thing will He withhold…
Psalm 84:11
For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.
These are great benefits right? Just how can we get them? I’ll look at that in the next post on this topic.
If you know of any other benefits in Scripture to doing what’s right, I’d appreciate them in the comments.

I strive to do right on a daily basis. Jesus died on the cross to wash our sins and since then’ we are all required to do right all the time in the eyes of GOD .
Thank you for the write up of 9 benefits of doing right . am richly blessed by this.

“Striving” is good…”being” is better. When we do right because of what Christ did, not because we’re living up to some standard we never can (which the reason Christ died in the first place – to do what we couldn’t) doing right becomes more natural for us.
Thanks for the comments.
