We just had a an incredible weekend with the Holy Spirit… yes, I know He’s already in us, around us and on us at all times…but there are moments and times when He’s more palpable and people are healed, relationships are restored and good things happen…I’m still shaking sensing His presence now. I’d better go soak. Before I do, I wanted to share this post I prepared last week, about the Holy Spirit.

Amelia Rose says
I live in Miami. I had a dream about Jesus. I was not raised Christian. I’ve been reading the Bible. I’m ready to be baptized to the right church but I haven’t found anyone who can answer my question. The Bible tells me to be careful of those who pretend to have the Holy Ghost because they tell lies (2 Peter 2:1). The Bible says the Holy Ghost will answer all our questions (John 14:26). I don’t feel anyone in Miami has the Holy Ghost because no one around here has any answers. I want to be baptized to a church and learn from a teacher who actually has the Holy Ghost and not some pretender who just wants to steal our money. I am asking churches in other states and online because I am willing to go anywhere for the church that actually knows the truth.
The Background for my question.
1 Corinthians 2:10 says the Holy Ghost searches the deep things of God but Romans 8:27 says according to God the Holy Ghost doesn’t search us God does. Revelation 2:23 present a problem with that because it says Jesus does. John 4:24 says God is a spirit and 2 Corinthians 3:17 says Jesus is a spirit. Colossians 1:25-27 says the mystery is Jesus is in us. John 14:23 confirms this because it also says God is inside us too. I don’t believe the Holy Ghost, the Father and Son are all the same person because the Son doesn’t know when he is coming only God does (Matthew 24:36). 1 Timothy 2:5 says there is just one mediator and that is Jesus and 1 John 2:1 confirms this because Jesus is the advocate. I wondered if Jesus is the Holy Ghost, it certainly makes sense but Matthew 1:18 creates a complication because he isn’t his Father. Then there is the argument whether between Holy Ghost and Holy Spirit are they the same being or separate. Both the Latin Vulgate and the King James uses both (Romans 15:13 and Luke 11:13). I don’t even know what Bible to read because there are so many that say different things (Matthew 5:18-20 and Rev. 22:18-19). Even Peter prophesied the wicked would control it (2 Peter 2:21). Now lets add the wickedness in Christian History. I don’t speak Hebrew or Greek.
Here is my question. Taking all of that into consideration, right now I don’t believe there is a Holy Ghost and I can’t accept a church that can’t explain it. Clearly, they don’t have the true Holy Ghost because their Holy Ghost isn’t telling them anything. Can you explain to me the Holy Ghost or is the Holy Ghost Jesus and God working together? Jesus wouldn’t leave us without an answer to the most important question would he? Does Daniel 12:4 have the answer and we are just waiting for the female prophet to reveal it (Ezekiel 33:33)? Obviously, the Bible isn’t finished yet – (Revelation 10:7). I’m tired of waiting for the Bride to come and so she can tell us the answer (Isaiah 51:1, Matthew 12:42)?
Do you know the answer? I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Amelia Rose
revtrev says
John 14:26 actually says: “But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”
It doesn’t say, “He will answer all our questions.”
I think that’s actually your problem. God is God. His not a genie in a bottle. GOD – ultimately unknowable, yet He’s made Himself known. The Otherness of God is nowhere in your comments.
AND this unknowable GOD has made Himself known as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. If you want to honestly know more, I’m happy to help you. Something tells me you’ve decided without knowing Hebrew or Greek.
April says
Amelia Rose, you will find what you seek when you seek Him with your whole heart – set apart from your own understanding. Reminding your heart gently of this – His ways are higher than ours, His thoughts higher than ours. Not only resting in His presence, but allowing Him to rest in you there will be breakthrough in this. There are many things that you do not know in the mystery that will be revealed as you turn your full being of attention to Him. The baptism you seek is not of man.
Luverne Vanderwerf says
Please watch A.J.Hemstrough ministry on the Holy Spirit. He will answer all your questions on the Holy Spirit.

Sarah says
I would agree that there are a lot of false prophets in the land. However, the Holy Spirit will lead us. Just as you were led to these scriptures, you will find the answers to your questions within them. I was like you I had so many questions that no one answered, which satisfied me. The Holy Spirit showed me through the Word that if I seek Him, I will find Him. So began my journey to know Him for myself. I discovered He would reveal Himself to me in ways that drew me closer to the person of the Holy Spirit, who revealed Jesus. Jesus showed me His unmerited love that He was willing to die for me, a sinner. He went to that cross sinless and blameless because He knew there was no other way for me to get to the Father except through Him. Because of what Jesus did it allowed me access to the Father that loved me with an Agape love. It was God’s love that He sent His Son Jesus to cleanse me and wash me free of every stain. Because God sent Jesus to die for me, He promised He would not leave me comfortless. He left me the comforter to lead and guide me unto all truth.
I can give you scriptures, but I encourage you to seek Him for yourself because His Word is what you will trust. He will answer the real question if He is real. Then, just like me, you will no longer doubt the triune being, but you will share the good news of who He is, and your life will be a reflection of what you want to see in others. Every day, I live to be a reflection of who He is because of the Holy Spirit within me. He will lead you to a Spirit-filled church that will help cultivate you and help you to grow🌹

Benon Emmanuel says
One of His roles,”He is the spirit of truth” really worked and still working when I received Him. Some people you worship with in the same church will have problem with you. Especially when they see the light on your forehead, they normally become angry with you for nothing. You may not know why especially when you are still a fresh receiver. And these are the very people who are so zealous in the things of God in the church but some are disobedient. So when the holy spirit is in you,you will know those who are not real Christians. Especially those who are possessed with evil spirit ,witches and wizards. They are always uncomfortable at your presence because the Bible says where there is light darkness cannot dwell there.
revtrev says
Benon…I really appreciate Galatians 5 to help keep us in step with the life of the Spirit
Joseph says
I simply perused this work, but glued my eyes on the “He is…” which makes the FUNCTIONS less than 70 (although in reality H.G. functions are innumerable). “He is” qualifies/characterizes/describes HIM, rather than HIS functions. Hope this is understood!

At our church we have a Conversation Cafe where people can ask any question they have about the Bible or God. Last night it was all about Holy Spirit. I don’t think we got it all, but Jesus has a lot to say about Him in the book of John.
Apollo says
I like what you post, but one of the biggest mis-interpretations of the bible (in my opinion) is in regards to the Holy Spirit. It is your soul. The Father (God), The Son (Christ) and the Holy Spirit (You). There is no nameless third entity. All of this “research” is bunk and based on false premise.
RevTrev says
Apollo, I’m glad you shared it’s your opinion. I hope you know your opinion needs to be inline with Scripture. Did you descend like a dove when Jesus was baptized to fulfill all righteousness? I don’t think so.
Eya Odinakachukwu says
well, Apollo i disagree with your comment the holy spirit cant be me (myself) like you stated above. the holy spirit is only but the spirit of God, who is to dwell among the only the Believers.

Blessings in the Lord…
As encouraged to do, I started to reference these for myself. Too many of us take things for granted and end up in error. One HUGE error I found is in item 7, he baptizes… In matthew 3:11, it is speaking of John the baptist and looking further especially in Acts it is Jesus who is the baptizer and not the Holy Spirit… I have found other errors also. Please take the time as the author herself states to reference these for yourself as we do not want to be responsible for passing on error.
It is in Christ alone that we live, move and have our being. Be blessed in all you do.

Thank you Lisa

I thank u for this work.however, i feel that if we do truly believe that the Holy Spirit is God, then it invariably means that there is no limit to the number of good things He can do in our lives. Thanks

Amen. 70 is just a number that grabs our attention. No limits intended to be put on God by decent SEO. 🙂

Thank you so much for this…I thought I had the holy spirit figured out once I received the gift of tongues but this helped me see so much more untapped potential and how desperately I need him. Literally as I read each one I was thinking I need that, that function would speak to this area of my life or another. It also taught me a much more effective way to pray for loved ones instead of trying to guess what they really need. Thank you thank you thank you

Thank you so much for sharing this list. I think so often the job and value He provides is lost in the light of Jesus and the Father. It can be so easy to forget the gentleness and yet strength He displays in our lives every day. I really enjoyed being a part of this community.

Thanks Rev. Gerald. I’m continually amazed how many people come to this list every week and stay for well over 5 minutes on average. Most pages on the web have an average of less than 10 seconds. It tells me people are using it to study the references. Which is what it’s here for.
