Gratitude is the attitude that guards my heart
“But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.” – 2 Corinthians 2:14 (GW)

I live with my whole heart aligned with itself and with God. I live wholeheartedly. My heart is my emotions, but it’s also my decisions and my actions. The three need to agree. I can’t say one thing and do another. I can’t make a decision that goes counter to my emotions.
Peace is the only emotion I allow to rule in my heart. Other emotions make better servants than masters. My emotions show me what I truly believe. Aligning my decisions, my emotions and my actions enables me to enjoy His peace that passes all understanding. Thanksgiving aligns all three. Gratitude guards my heart.
With thanksgiving, I let the spoken word of God fill my life. I fix my thoughts on what is true, and honourable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. I think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
With thankfulness in my heart, I sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs and I teach and get counsel with all the wisdom He gives. I obey what He says. I only do what I see the Father do. I only say what I hear the Father say. My steps are guided by gratitude. I do everything I do as unto the Lord, and I do it all with gratitude.
Today, giving thanks is a natural part of my life. I feel grateful. It’s not a rote declaration. I celebrate opportunities to show my appreciation. I let the peace of God rule in my heart, and I am always thankful. Gratitude is the attitude that guards my whole heart.
